Automotive Weathering Testing

Materials Weathering Testing by QUV and Xenon Arc plus consultancy services for automotive plastics, metals, coatings, composites and compounds.

Automotive materials weathering testing is an essential part of the automotive materials industry, as it is important to understand the influence of weather on the performance and durability of materials and components. Products must meet stringent performance requirements of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and constantly need to be improved to withstand more extreme weather conditions and achieve ever longer lifetimes.

Environmental extremes - indoor and outdoor - faced by these plastic materials range from very dry to wet and humid, and from freezing cold to very hot conditions.

The durability, quality and safety of automotive materials and components need to be guaranteed through a wide range of conditions. Intertek performs weathering testing on automotive materials and components, such as plastics and composites. Testing is performed against international and OEM-specific standards.

QUV: ISO 4892-2, ASTM G154, ASTM D4329, ASTM D4587, SAE J2020.  

Xenon-arc: ISO 4892-2, ASTM G155, ASTM D2565, ASTM D4459, VDA75202, SAE J2412 (J1885), SAE J2527 (J1960) as well as stipulations from all major OEMs including Volkswagen, BMW, Daimler and Nissan.
